To create a virtual machine that uses a physical disk
1UsetheCustomsetupintheNewVirtualMachinewizardtocreateavirtual
machinethatusesaphysicaldisk.
2OntheSelectaDiskpageofthewizard,selectUseaphysicaldisk,andchooseto
useindividualpartitionsortheentiredisk.
Ifyouuseindividualpartitions,onlythepartitionsyo
usele
ctareaccessibletothe
virtualmachine.Theotherpartitionsmightbevisibletotheguestoperating
system,butyoucannotmount,access,orformatthem.
3 (Optional)Tospecifyadevicenodeforthevirtualdiskorexcludedisksfrom
snapshots,dothefollowing:

bOntheHardwaretab,selectthephysicaldiskandclickAdvanced.
cTochangethedevicenode,selectfromtheVirtualdevicenodelist.
dToexcludedisksfromsnapshots,selectIndependentforthemodeandchoose
oneofthefollowingoptions:
Persistent–Disksinpersistentmodebehave likeconventionaldisksona
physicalcomputer.Alldatawrittentoadiskinpersistentmodeiswritten
permanentlytothedisk.
Nonpersistent–Changestodisksinnonpersistentmodearediscardedwhen
youpowerofforresetthevirtualmachine.Nonpersistentmodeenablesyou
torestartthevirtualmachinewithavirtualdiskinthesamestateeverytime.
Changestothediskarewrittentoandreadfromaredologf
ilethatisdeleted
whenyoupowerofforresetthevirtualmachine.
